What this paper is about
This paper provides foundation studies for Teacher Education, Social Sciences, Arts and students in other academic disciplines in critical issues related to Māori education. It examines historical and contemporary approaches in Maori education provision in Aotearoa New Zealand. It explores policies, practices and developments that have impacted on the educational development of Maori.The paper will also examine the relevance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi for Māori experiences within the New Zealand education and schooling system.
How this paper will be taught
Students should expect to spend about 6 hours per week on this paper in the following proportions.
Lectures 1 hour
Tutorials 2 hours
Independent study 2 hours
There is one lecture a week. The lecture provides background, theoretical and general information for the paper.
There is one tutorial scheduled each week, where you meet with your tutor, to discuss concepts covered in lectures and work on tasks related to the lecture.

In order to be eligible for a pass in this paper students are required to complete all four assessment tasks.
The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 100:0. There is no final exam.
